2022 Diversity & Inclusion Holiday Display

NIA has been decorating the County City Building at 227 W. Jefferson Blvd. in downtown South Bend since 2018. This year we added new ornaments to our Diversity & Inclusion Holiday Tree. The first one we’re excited to highlight is Monastery of the Holy Martyrs—Syriac Orthodox Workers. They serve their community in Plymouth and surrounding areas, and we've partnered with them to serve our houseless community in South Bend. They have steadily supplied us with food, warm clothes, and socks to share. NIA stands in steadfast solidarity with BLM South Bend and the Black community, and we are proud to add their ornament to our tree.

Last year we were contacted by a community member wishing to add an ornament to our tree that represented her family's tradition of Mari Lwyd, and we were honored to add it to the tree.

Another ornament we're proud to highlight is for TREES (Transgender Resource, Education & Enrichment Services). NIA members meet at The Tree House on the first Tuesday of every month to build community together in this safe, affirming space. We stand in solidarity with TREES and the LGBTQ community.

Another ornament we added to our tree was beautiful Tribal Artwork by Angie Rice, member of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi.
